Juan made the most of a free Sunday and went for a walk. He closed the gate at number 3536 and headed down Carlomagno street. Passing by School 144, he was struck by the quiet.
He skirted the Danubio stadium and walked straight into the Hipódromo racetrack. Along that route he had walked so many times, he had watched the modest homes grow up around that looming structure.
He closed his eyes and imagined a square for the neighborhood, swings and slides for the schoolchildren, a small pitch for the kids from the liceo, families sharing mate as the sun went down among laughter and play.
