They say that for every language you speak, you live a different life; and Mónica had several. She traveled the world with her parents and older sister, and came to master seven languages. Her father was Iran's ambassador to Romania, in times when that country was still known as Persia. In addition to her paternal Persian and maternal Romanian, she spoke English, Italian, French, German, and Spanish.
Mónica was born in Bucharest. Monique, as her friends called her. With the outbreak of World War II, the family crossed the Atlantic and found refuge in Montevideo. In the sixties, Mónica began studying at the Faculty of Humanities.
