Carlos crossed the entrance hall and, with some effort, pushed open the iron gate. The Art Deco ironwork was beautiful, but years of damp had made it stiff. More than once, that gate had been the reason he arrived late to his job at the SODRE auditorium.
That day he was late again, but no one noticed. The news from the night before had left everyone shaken: the auditorium had caught fire in the middle of a performance.
