On one side of the dirt road, sugar cane. On the other side of the road, sugar cane. In the middle of the woods, a group of peludos— sugar cane workers— gathered. It was an assembly of the Sugar Workers' Union of Artigas.
Upon arriving, Atalivas showed his smile beneath his mustache. Raúl, with thick eyebrows and light eyes, returned the gesture. They all looked the same. It could be from the soot on their skin from hours cutting cane. It could be from the voices shouting: "Land for those who work it!"
