Among box after box of belongings, Yolanda found the photo albums. She opened them and carefully set aside an old sepia photograph. In the center she saw Vulmera Ghelfi and Don Tomás Casco; on either side stood their nine children, and behind them the native trees of Salto. She called Julio to show him. In the picture were two identical girls.
“Let me guess which one is you. Hmm… this one!”
“No! That’s Margarita!” Yolanda laughed. “We used to swap clothes to cheat at school. The trouble we caused!”
Yolanda closed her eyes and imagined they were back in Uruguay: her mother’s cooking waiting on the table, and herself playing the piano.
