Mario took several pencils from the drawer and immediately realized they would also need paper. The table was ready. Crumbs from the afternoon snack went to the floor, from the floor to the broom, from the broom to the dustpan, and finally into the trash.
—Dad, you remembered! —exclaimed little Anatole, flashing a smile so wide it barely fit his face.
—Of course, my love. Sooner or later, joy finds us —Mario replied, carefully lifting Anatole onto his left knee. Both of them wished that Saturday afternoon, beneath the golden autumn sun, could last forever.
From the couch, Victoria watched them with a mother’s loving gaze as she painted her nails red. Knowing that Mario would soon have to leave, she invited Anatole to run an errand with her.
